Preschool (Kindergarten)

In our Kindergarten your child will learn the basics. This means the basics in math, science, reading, writing, social studies, Islamic, Qur’an and more. We prepare children for the following school years because they meet new friends and learn how to communicate. Developing these communication skills early on is important because the sooner children learn how to communicate well the sooner they can do so. When kids are required to share and play nicely with one another they will store that information and it will shape how they treat others for the rest of their lives.

Our kindergarten classrooms are a crucial element to the flow of daily activities. The classrooms are open and child friendly without any obstacles that block the view of the children. It is bright and playful, ready to accommodate the children while they move around and play.

At IMAS Kindergarten we believe that all children are unique and that their actions and reactions are personal. An effective classroom management program involves solid guidelines and procedures. In our class we deal with situations individually as they arise, with a focus on helping each child learn and grow from his or her actions.

Yemeni Ministry of Education Exams

At IMAS, we offer our students the opportunity to sit for and excel in the Grade 12 Yemeni Ministry of Education Exams through providing them with expert teachers in the Yemeni Curriculum.  

We also open the doors for Non IMAS students to sit for The Yemeni Ministry of Education Exams at our premises. A team from the Yemen Ministry of Education visits our school annually to present the papers and invigilate the exams. The following Subjects are offered:

AS and A Level (Sixth Form)

A -level is definitely a challenging journey, but with our qualified teachers, students do not have to worry about going on roller coaster rides alone. We encourage students to unleash their interest, talent, as well as inspire them to be passionate in their learning. Teachers awaken student’s interest by building an exciting and fun environment, and at the same time encourage deep independent thinking skills.

In IMAS, we equip our teachers with enough resources in order to deliver a broad understanding of the subjects to your child. We guarantee that our curriculum prepares learners to pursue higher education anywhere in the world. Learners are given the choice to either specialize in a particular subject area or study a range of subjects.

Teachers and students work closely to succeed in depth subject content, to make judgments, evaluations, and decisions. English Language Intensive Course (ELIC)

ELIC (English Language Intensive Course) has been founded on the principle of providing excellence in English language learning and we are dedicated to the task of helping students succeed in gaining the proficiency in English necessary to helping them in their academic pursuit to later join students studying in school and bridge the gap between their levels.

We aim to provide professional educational services that would lead students to efficiently contribute to the advancement of society through capacity building by helping students achieve language proficiency and improve personal skills.

At IMAS ELIC we believe in:

  • Practice! Practice! Practice: Language is a skill and as a skill, it needs to be practiced as much as possible.
  • Participating actively in class: Class time is the best chance for students to practice in a structured setting with a trained teacher to guide them.

Curriculum & Departments

Mathematics is a creative and imaginative way of thinking which is necessary to everyday life.  It is a truly amazing subject which requires knowledge, understanding and a great number of different skills. 

At the International Arabic Modern School, opportunities are provided for the students to deepen and broaden their knowledge, skills and understanding. They are provoked to develop mathematical reasoning, generate, select, and use appropriate procedures and problem-solving strategies, and to activate multiple representations of their mathematical thinking.

The students are encouraged to share their thinking with teachers and peers and to examine different problem-solving strategies and apply them to real life world. Critical reflection in mathematics helps students gain insight into their strengths and weaknesses as learners and to appreciate the value of errors as powerful motivators to enhance learning and understanding. 

This will be done through a variety of activities – there will be individual practice at the students’ appropriate level, group work and problem solving – both in class and in homework.

Competitions are an important part of learning mathematics and a fun activity for students of all ages. The IMAS supports math competitions in many ways, from running our own in-house class and year group competitions to participating in the national wide competitions.

The teachers in the mathematics department aim to motivate and inspire all their students within a stimulating, challenging and positive environment. Assessment will be both summative and formative; students will learn how to assess themselves in order to see how they are improving in each of the areas and they will both gain and maintain confidence in this subject to allow them to progress to their full potential.

 

Scientific exploration is at the heart of what we do. Our teaching and research activities run the spectrum from the life sciences to the physical sciences.  

With fully equipped science labs, we guarantee that the students will acquire the basic as well as the fundamental knowledge and skills of working in a laboratory.

The aim of the International Modern Arabic School’s Science Department is for all of our students to acquire the knowledge and skills of empirical inquiry so that they may better understand and live responsibly in the world God created.

We also want to empower students to be compassionate and inspire people to make a change in the world. After all everyone has a chance at becoming the next Albert Einstein. With us you may be one step closer.

Business Studies develops learners’ understanding of business activity in the public and private sectors, and the importance of innovation and change. Learners find out how the major types of business organisation are established, financed and run, and how their activities are regulated. Factors influencing business decision-making are also considered, as are the essential values of cooperation and interdependence.

Learners in IMAS not only study business concepts and techniques but also enhance related skills such as numeracy and enquiry. The study of business provides both a foundation for further study and an ideal preparation for the world of work.

Accounting introduces learners to the theory and concepts of accounting and the ways in which accounting is used in a variety of modern economic and business contexts. Learners focus on the skills of recording, reporting, presenting and interpreting financial information and build an ideal foundation both for further study and for a future career within the profession.

Our programs balance a thorough knowledge and understanding of Business and Accounting and help students to develop the skills needed to be successful for their next steps in education and work life.

The English department focus on the four components of the study of English which include Writing, Reading, Speaking and Listening. Each of these areas are closely monitored with assessments every half term, whilst also providing intervention groups to further assist the pupils, ensuring that all the pupils’ needs are met.

There is also a great emphasis on Literacy across the school.  We see literacy as a key to raising standards. We believe passionately that the key to raising pupil attainment is to develop high standards in literacy as this is essential to preparing our students for their future education and careers.​

ICT is a growing into a more important subject every day as we live in a technological world. Our primary school students learn the basics to get them set up for life. We teach them the effective use of Word processor, Excel, Powerpoint, and basic Internet security and safety measure.

Our secondary school students study more in depth topics of ICT which gives them a greater advantage in later studies and work.

Malay, or Bahasa Malaysia, is the only official language in Malaysia. Although English is widely spoken, IMAS students will not miss the chance of learning Malay. The study of Malay language will help IMAS students to be able to communicate with Malaysian locals and also with people from the surrounding countries.

At IMAS, we aim to help students to develop their interests to learn Malay language. Students will be exposed with listening skills for high interest narratives and informal conversations. The Malay language syllabuses are based on writing and speaking skills, which it is designed to develop aural/oral communication skills.

 At the same time, we also aim to level up the students’ proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing through various engaging activities. By the age 9, students will be able to:

  • understand different genres of text
  • respond appropriately to instruction or message conveyed listen and
  • understand Malay Language in both formal and informal situations

It develops children’s creativity and imagination and gives them the opportunity to express their thoughts and emotions. Our students explore the visual, tactile and sensory qualities of materials and processes. Working as artists they are encouraged to develop their own voice as well as work collaboratively in order to communicate with different audiences through a variety of media and contexts using color, texture, line, pattern and form.

Art at the International Arabic Modern School helps our children respond to the work of others gaining insight into different viewpoints, identities, traditions and cultures, which form an integral part of their development as global citizens. We invite local and international artists into school and incorporate local and regional artistic aspects into our lessons.   

To encourage a cross-curricular approach, art lessons often enhance the learning that occurs in class.  Through collaborative planning, the art teacher can ensure that learning in art is meaningful to the children, through the creative process of art-making, while also contributing to their understanding of a class-based unit.

All of our Activities staff nurture, inspire and guide the children’s physical experiences so that develop a positive outlook towards not just sport but active living. At the heart of our philosophy is the student’s engagement and enjoyment in their lessons, through this positive foundation we believe that our students experience the best environment to flourish in their physical learning. The children’s ability to develop and master the fundamental movements that a human body needs to live a healthy, active life is introduced, refined and mastered and links are made with other areas of the curriculum, thus building a foundation for future sporting, learning and life experiences. 

We aim to set appropriate challenges for each individual child through games, structured activities and appropriate sports to develop their key skills in an inclusive, engaging and enjoyable environment that aims to inspire and stimulate the philosophies of self-improvement, fair play and teamwork. PE lessons draw on the International Arabic Modern School Learner Attributes thus developing communication skills, independence, resilience, respect for others and knowledge of the body.

All year groups are taught by one of our qualified specialist PE teachers.  Our students benefit from the wide range of sports facilities and resources at the school, a basketball and handball courts, volleyball court and a football pitch.

In addition to PE lessons, we run an extensive year-round program of competitive sport, a well-established known as the sports day, the latter of which is part of the school’s overall Extra-Curricular Activities program.

واللغة العربية لغة القرآن الكريم إحدى اللغات العالمية، انتهاجها وتعلمها عامل مهم في بناء الشخصية، وتجعل الطالب يتمتع بالثقة الكبيرة في شخصيته، واختارها الله سبحانه وتعالى لسانا لوحيه فنزل القرآن بها ) إنا أنزلناه قرآنا عربيا (.

ولهذا زاد الاهتمام باللغة العربية والرغبة لتعلمها وهذه الرغبة ناتجة عن حب للدين الإسلامي وتعلم أحكامه، وكذلك الرغبة في التعرف على الثقافات العربية عن قرب.

ومن هذا المنطلق تسعى المدرسة العربية العالمية الحديثة (قسم اللغة العربية) إلى مد جسور التواصل الثقافية بين العرب والعربية وبلاد الملايو، وإسهاما منا في نشر اللغة العربية لغة القرآن الكريم ونشر ثقافة الدين الإسلامي وتعليمه بمستوى متميز ، وتوفير التعليم الجيد والممتاز من خلال أفضل المعايير والطرق التعليمية في تدريس اللغة العربية  باستخدام أفضل المناهج التي من شأنها تسهيل فهم اللغة العربية وبأحدث المعايير العالمية من خلال:

  • تمكين الطالب من: المهارات اللغوية وتضم: الاستماع (فهم المسموع) ، الكلام (التعبير الشفوي) ، والقراءة (فهم المقروء)  ، الكتابة (الآلية والإبداعية أو التعبير الكتابي).
  • تمكين الطالب من العناصر اللغوية وهي: الأصوات ( الظواهر الصوتية المختلفة) ، والمفردات (التعابير السياقية والاصطلاحية) ، والتراكيب النحوية (مع قدر ملائم من الصرف والإملاء).
  • تمكين الطالب من المهارات الاتصالية: والمقصود بها إكساب الطالب القدرة على الكلام والاتصال بمن حوله من خلال التفاعل مع أصحاب اللغة مشافهة والكتابة والتعبير عن نفسه بصورة جيدة في المواقف الاجتماعية المختلفة.

ونسعى إلى أن يكون الطالب:

  • قادرا على القراءة الجيدة مع فهم جيد لما يقرأ.
  • قادرا على المحاورة  والاتصال بالآخرين ويوصل ما يريد شفويا بلغة سهلة وفصيحة.
  • قادرا على فهم ما يسمع فهما جيدا وترجمته في الواقع العملي.
  • قادرا على الكتابة الإبداعية، والكتابة الوظيفية، سالمة من الأخطاء النحوية والإملائية.
  • قادرا على إنتاج نص متصل عن تجربة شخصية.
  • قادرا على وصف التجارب والأحلام والآمال والطموحات.
  • قادرا على إعطاء تفسيرات منطقية للآراء والخطط.
  • قادرا تلخيص نصوص طويلة عن الصحة والسفر والسياحة والعادات والتقاليد وتطورها.
  • قادرا على التحليل والتركيب والنقد.

In teaching Modern Standard Arabic to Non-Arabic speakers, IMAS uses the communicative language approach, which includes the use of multimedia with a focus on the variety of the language used throughout the Arabic speaking world, especially in educational and academic settings, as well as other aspects of daily life. We offer our students a number of courses designed to develop their listening, speaking, reading, writing skills.

In addition to formal classes, IMAS organizes competitions, excursions and cultural activities to encourage our students to practice and speak Arabic with full confidence.

Our Islamic Studies subject aims at building a pious student that holds dear to him/her the true teachings of Islam in accordance with the Quran and Sunnah. The Islamic Studies syllabus is very moderate, focuses on noble values, and is approved by the Malaysian Religious Authorities (JAKIM).

The syllabus teaches IMAS students basic knowledge in Islamic Jurisprudence (Fiqh), Hadith, and helps them memorize chapters from the Holy Quran.
